Mercedes-Benz has been selected as the chosen marque for this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic & Supercars show at Sherborne Castle on 15-16 July, and to celebrate the occasion two very special models from the firm’s early history will be on display.
A replica of an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen – designed by Karl Benz and widely regarded to be the first automobile – is set to be one of the highlights. It will be joined by a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 36/220 S Type Tourer, which was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and once owned by Sir Peter Ustinov, and now resides in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Only 146 examples were ever built.
“This event is synonymous with showcasing some of the best classic, motorsport and supercars there are,” said Lancaster Insurance’s Andrew Evanson. “These vehicles are a fantastic addition to the weekend lineup of around 2000 cars and I’m sure they will delight show visitors and exhibitors alike – we certainly can’t wait to see them!”
Show Secretary Stuart Annett said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have secured these rare and unique Mercedes’ for the event. The marque feature changes annually and it’s fantastic to have this calibre and stature of vehicles in the display.”
