Amazing "£1 million" haul of classic supercar parts unearthed

A treasure trove of rare parts from some of the most desirable and expensive cars in the world has been uncovered – and experts think the collection could be worth at least £1 million.

Car auctioneers COYS discovered the "container find" in the south of England, and as they hunted through the many boxes realised that inside them were valuable parts from iconic Italian marques such as Ferrari, Maserati and Abarth,

What's more, some of items are intended for super-rare models such as the Ferrari 250GTO, 250 SWB, 275, Competition Daytona, F40 and 512LM, Maserati 250F and other Italian competition marques – and many are still in their original wooden packing cases dating from the '60s.

"Something of this scale and with the importance and rarity of the cars they are related to is unprecedented," said COYS' Managing Director Chris Routledge, who has spent the past few days hunting through the containers.

"We are looking at least £1 million pounds worth of spares, probably more and I have never seen anything like it. It's an Aladdin’s cave which is going to excite people all over the world.

"There are wire wheels in their original wooden boxes, carburetors in their original oiled wrapping paper, exhaust pipes, radiator grills, dashboards, the list just goes on and on.

"It will take us several days to catalogue the parts and once we have done that we will issue a full list of the spares."

The items were part of a private collection, the owner of which passed away many years ago. It is to be offered with no reserve in a sale on Friday 29 June, ahead of COYS' Blenheim Palace auction the next day.

“I feel a bit like Howard Carter uncovering Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922," added Routledge. "Every time we remove one box or item there is something else of huge interest hiding behind."
