This cracking little 1959 Lotus Elite S1 is making its competitive return at the Zandvoort Classic (27-29 July).
DM Historics has put in the hard work, bringing this historically significant Elite back to race spec – full FIA Appendix K regulations, in case you're interested.
In period, it saw action on tracks including Goodwood and Mallory Park, with Ecurie Ecosse racing team member, not to mention Le Mans 24 Hour and Nürburgring 1000km veteran, Tommy Dickson at the wheel.
The photo above shows it cocking a wheel during the Goodwood Tourist Trophy race on 20 August 1960.

Following its racing career here in the UK in the early ’60s, the Elite went Stateside, and was owned by another racing driver, Bob Atkin – of Bob Atkin Motorsport.
Atkin restored the car in the mid 1980s, after which he piloted it on its first racing return.
Indeed, this Elite was a competitive racer, campaigned until 2014 – and it still has valid certification for racing in the US.
