After taking his first-ever Goodwood Revival win at last weekend’s 20th-anniversary event, Darren Turner has been announced as the Rolex Driver of the Meeting.
The 44-year-old factory Aston Martin driver, who’s currently contesting the FIA World Endurance Championship, took his maiden Revival victory in Saturday’s Fordwater Trophy – and, appropriately, it was behind the wheel of a 1950 Aston Martin DB2.
He qualified second, but when the polesitter – BTCC driver Sam Tordoff – failed to get off the line and dropped to the back, Turner overcame David Franklin’s Ferrari 225S Vignale Berlinetta and Stuart Graham’s Jaguar XK120 Roadster to cross the line 6.4 seconds clear of the recovering Tordoff.
Other drivers to make big impressions included Dutch teenager Olivier Hart, who took two wins – including one in the prestigious RAC TT Celebration alongside his father – and Phil Keen with his pitlane-to-victory run in the Sussex Trophy.
In addition, Turner scooped a second-place finish in the Whitsun Trophy driving a ’65 Hamill-Chevrolet SR3, with a super overtake of Rob Huff at Woodcote.
