Classic & Sports Car – Finalists announced for Pride of Ownership award

With the clock ticking until the Classic Motor Show at the NEC (9-11 November), the finalists have been revealed for the biannual Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership award.

Representing classic car owners from across the globe, the 20 cars on the Winter Final shortlist are an eclectic, interesting bunch that are sure to give the voting public a hard time when it comes to picking the winner – that’s right, showgoers have their say when it comes to the top prize.

Would your vote go to Kevin Peck’s Bugatti Type 35 Replica (above)? Or maybe Keith Hudson’s 1961 Maserati 3500GT (below), which has undergone a three-year restoration.

Clockwise from top: 1961 Maserati 3500GT, 1938 Citroën and 1956 Daimler

Christopher Joyce’s 1956 Daimler New Drophead Coupé (above) is quite a head-turner, while David Selfridge’s 1938 Citroën Traction Avant Light 12 (also above) is an 80-year-old that’s certainly still got it.

Sticking with the older finalists, which would you pick from those below?

Perhaps the 1939 MG TB owned by Richard Pinkett or Gillian Caldicott’s 1922 Calthorpe All Weather Tourer?

For a dose of Italian flair, a regularly driven 1964 Fiat 2300S Coupé owned by Doug Martin is in contention, too. Or for something rather different, Josh Lydiard’s 1972 Volkswagen Trekker is another shortlisted car.

Clockwise from top left: Escort RS Cosworth, Mustang and Savage

A trio of Fords have made this year’s second Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership shortlist: a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback that Luke Greenwood has spent two years restoring; Mark McClelland’s 1994 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Lux; and a 1969 Ford Savage Mk2 V6 owned by Rob Sargent.

Perhaps surprisingly – or maybe refreshingly – there’s just one Porsche on this list, that honour going to Norman Shum’s 1991 911 (964) that has been the subject of a three-year nut-and-bolt restoration.

At the other end of the scale, a 1966 Morris Mini Traveller owned by Andy Nash is in the running for the prize; we’re sure that would be a popular winner.

Mk2 Jag and 1982 Esprit are also in the running

Pictured above are more shortlisted stars, including Nick Pollitt’s 1955 Triumph TR3 and Scott Walker’s restored 1979 TVR 3000M.

More British marques under the spotlight are Jaguar, thanks to Michael Jones’ 1960 Mk2 and Lotus, in the form of Lucas Reynold’s ’82 Turbo Esprit.

A pair of Japanese models are also in the running – check out Mandeep Sandhar’s 2000 Nissan Skyline.

Or how about Nish Khambhaita's classic? His 1971 Datsun 510 has a retro rally theme inspired by his father's exploits on the tough East African Safari Rally in a similar car.

Clockwise from top left: will the Skyline, Datsun or E24 win on 11 November?

Last, but by no means least, is the 1989 BMW E24 M635CSI (above) belonging to Tahmid Haque.

Visitors to the NEC’s Classic Motor Show will vote for their favourite car and story, so if you’re going, be sure to have your say!

The Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership winner will be revealed on the show’s closing day (11 November) by Ant Anstead.

Get your tickets to the Classic Motor Show here. And don’t forget that we’ll also be holding our own awards at the same show, with the ceremony for the Classic & Sports Car Club Awards 2018 taking place on the Friday evening (9 November).
