There are few motor-racing rivalries as fascinating as the one between Ford and Ferrari in the late 1960s.
The desire to be top dog at Le Mans was born out of a personal feud between Enzo Ferrari and Henry Ford II, and led directly to the creation of the brilliant GT40 and to the American marque’s four successive La Sarthe triumphs between 1966 and ’69.
Now a new Hollywood film starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is bringing that automotive arms race to the big screen – and judging by the first trailer, it’s going to be well worth watching.
Ford v Ferrari will focus on the relationship between design visionary Carroll Shelby (played by Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Bale) as they developed the GT40, and looks like having a nice blend of realistic on-track action and talkie bits.
It’ll be directed by James Mangold, who helmed the brilliant Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line plus a load of superhero movies, and will be released on 15 November. And you can watch the full trailer below.
