The Vintage Sports-Car Club has announced the cancellation of a race meeting for, it’s thought, the first time in the club’s 85-year history.

A lack of entries for this weekend’s (Saturday 21 September) season finale at Snetterton has brought about the move, with just nine confirmed entrants for the sprint and 18 for the race meeting.

This comes after organisers had already tweaked the event’s original format of a unique Six-Hour team relay race for vintage cars, switching to a more traditional race programme in a bid to attract more competitors.

However, with insufficient entries to make the meeting viable, the decision has been taken to call it off.

“We regret that despite the recent change in format, there are insufficient competitor entries for Snetterton,” a statement from the VSCC said.

“To run the event would generate a poor competitor experience and atmosphere for the spectators, reflecting badly on the Club. Furthermore it would be unfair to our team of marshals and volunteers, who would be required to attend in their normal complement, and the potential financial loss is unacceptable.

“Competitor support for our Race and Speed events thus far in 2019 has been outstanding, and our members have contributed to a memorable programme. We thank them for that support as we plan for our calendar in 2020.”

It’s thought that a packed schedule of events in the weeks prior to the meeting is behind the low entry numbers, with the Goodwood Revival – which itself featured a race for pre-war Bentleys – taking place just last weekend, and with the Concours of Elegance and Salon Privé the week before.
