A one-off 1995 Ferrari F50 Berlinetta Prototipo is one of the first confirmed auction lots of 2020.
This former Geneva and Tokyo motor show car, used for promotional purposes, will cross the block at Worldwide Auctioneers’ sale in Scottsdale, Arizona in January, as the world’s biggest auction houses descend on the Phoenix desert.
But this is much more than ‘just’ a show car. This F50 was tested by Formula One stars Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi at Fiorano, and it’s the last Ferrari with a five-digit chassis number.
“This is a thrilling opportunity to own the very first production-spec Ferrari F50, the prototype car,” said Rod Egan, Principal and Auctioneer. “This is, without argument, the most significant roadgoing F50 in existence.”
There’s no word yet on what price it could achieve when it goes to auction on 15 January.
The Worldwide sale certainly promises a diverse line-up, with another highlight being the 1971 Plymouth Cuda 440 6-Pack Convertible pictured above.
Bought as a signing celebration by Hockey Hall of Fame member, Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Ed Belfour in 1987, it’s a well documented, matching-numbers example.
