Ferrari is celebrating 70 years of Le Mans success in a new showcase at its Maranello museum, from its first winner to 2019’s class-clincher.

In a display that opened this week, the story of the marque’s 36 overall and category victories starts with a 166MM Barchetta Touring, a similar car to that in which Luigi Chinetti and Lord Selsdon claimed Ferrari’s first Le Mans triumph at the 1949 edition, where, amazingly, Chinetti was at the wheel for over 22 of the 24 hours.

Nino Vaccarella and Jean Guichet’s Le Mans-winning 275P from 1964, a year in which Ferrari claimed all the podium places, is another of the star cars.

Meanwhile, bringing the story bang up to date is the 488GTE in which Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Daniel Serra secured LMGTE Pro honours last June.

And if you’d like to test your racecraft, you can get behind the wheel of a 488GTE on the simulator that’s one of the interactive features visitors can enjoy.

‘Ferrari at 24 Heures du Mans’ runs until 19 April this year.

This is one of three exhibitions currently open at Museo Ferrari at the marque’s Italian base.

Motorsport fans are sure to be interested in ‘90 Years – Scuderia Ferrari, the complete history’, while there’s also ‘Hypercars - The evolution of uniqueness’.

All are open every day between 9:30am and 7pm. Check out the museum’s website for ticket information.
