Classic speed heroes will be on show at this summer’s London Concours, which has confirmed it will return to the Honourable Artillery Company HQ in the UK’s capital on 19-20 August.

‘The Pursuit of Speed’ display will showcase not merely fast cars, but those built with the aim of being the fastest, with one per decade from the ’40s through to the 2010s.

And representing the 1990s is the McLaren F1.

Flying the flag for the ’40s will be a Jaguar XK120 with a Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’, once the fastest car in the world, the star of the following decade.

For the next two decades, it’s all Lamborghini, a Miura for the 1960s and a Countach for the ’70s.

And the Italians still have it in the 1980s, although for this decade Ferrari will be in the limelight with its 40th-anniversary celebration, the F40, which at that time wasn’t only the fastest car, but also the most powerful and the most expensive car for sale.

Then after the McLaren, it’s all about Bugatti, the Veyron and Chiron representing the 2000s and the 2010s respectively.
