From today, on the centenary of Jaguar legend Norman Dewis OBE’s birth, catch never-before-seen footage of him and Stirling Moss reliving their assault on the 1952 Mille Miglia.
While their attempt was ultimately thwarted when steering damage to their Jaguar C-type forced their retirement, the car’s groundbreaking prototype disc brakes, much-praised by Moss, later helped him win at Reims.
Dewis had said he’d like to mark his 100th birthday by once more driving a Jaguar at 100mph. Sadly, he passed away on 8 June 2019, at the age of 98.

The pair marked the 60th anniversary of their attempt in 2012 with a run on the Mille Miglia in the very same car and it is that 30-minute documentary that has now been released.
The Racers That Stopped the World will be shown for the first time on Sky Documentaries this Friday (7 August) and from today will also be available on Sky On Demand and Sky Go.
Jaguar test driver and development engineer Dewis was also a speed record-holder for the marque and drove a D-type in the ill-fated 1955 Le Mans, too. It is estimated he completed more than a million test miles at an average speed of 100mph-plus.
