The title of the world’s most expensive car sold at auction online has changed hands, as bidding for the 1966 Ferrari 275GTB Long Nose in Gooding & Co’s Geared Online sale stopped at $3.08m.
The honour has been taken from the Ferrari Enzo that RM Sotheby’s sold for $2.64m in May as part of its ‘Driving into summer auction’.
An Enzo also featured in the first day of the Gooding sale, which is being held across five days of auctions, achieving $2.354m against an estimate of $2.2-2.6m.
The unique Bianco 275GTB features a competition-style fuel filler and tan upholstery, and had been expected to sell for between $2.75-3.25m – so had been fêted as a potential record breaker when it was consigned.
The unrestored and original 275 has become the sixth most expensive car sold at auction this year.
Elsewhere in the sale, an F40 sold well at $1.62m ($1.25-1.5m), while a Letourneur et Marchand-bodied Bugatti Type 57 failed to find a new keeper.
