A fabulous Ferrari 250GTO will head a mouth-watering display from the Maranello marque at the fast-approaching Concours of Elegance.
The car in question is the factory test car and the second built. When new it was exported to Luigi Chinetti in the US and soon after finished first in class, second overall, at Sebring’s 12-hour race, driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien.
It is also a former Le Mans, Daytona and Nassau competitor and will be one of five very special Ferraris on show at this socially distanced gathering.
One of the first post-lockdown UK classic car events and the first major concours d’elegance since March, the Concours of Elegance comes to Hampton Court Palace on 4-6 September.
Don’t recognise this Ferrari? It is a 250GT Ellena, the 17th built.
Based on the second-series 250, the cars were bodied by Mario Boana who was assisting Pininfarina, but after 80 cars had been finished, Boana’s son-in-law, Ezio Ellena at Carrozzeria Ellena, took over and 50 Ellenas were built.
The first eight of these were identical to the Boana cars – this one has a high-roof body.
