Say thank you to dad!
As June rolls around, we thought it best to remind you that Father’s Day is just around the corner. This year, Father’s Day falls on 19 June in the UK and US, so you’ve not long to hunt down the perfect gift.
Whether it’s for your dad, grandfather, or the father figure in your life – we have chosen a wide selection of gifts at a variety of price points to help give you some inspiration.
All prices correct at date of publication
-
1. Drive Coffee (from $18)
As well as our love for classic cars, coffee helps fuel the team at C&SC.
The team at Drive Coffee has blended its two biggest passions to create an interesting new experience. The beans are delivered in wonderfully illustrated, racing-inspired, oil can-style tins, graced with iconic names such as Imola, Le Mans, Detroit and Baja.
If you look past the packaging, you’ll be happy to know the curators are real coffee lovers, too. With a careful eye on where the beans are sourced, how they are roasted, and the company’s impact on the environment.
For those living in the UK, the price will quickly add up – expect upwards of $40 after shipping fees and taxes – but you will receive a large 12oz tin, which will hopefully last a while!
-
2. Playforever Turbo (£30.60)
The turbo era of Formula One was all about excess. The ’80s meant big, fire-spitting turbocharged engines and massive, flamboyant wings – all in the name of aerodynamics, of course.
This series from Playforever captures the ’80s era of F1 wonderfully, using cartoonish proportions and period-inspired liveries. Models from the ‘Turbo’ range would surely be wasted hidden away in a toy box.
-
3. NOCO Boost XL GB50 (£145)
Unlike the C&SC team, our classics can sometimes need a little more than a strong coffee to get going in the morning, which is where the NOCO Boost XL GB50 can come in handy.
Its small size makes it great for carrying around in the boot, whilst spark-proof technology and reverse polarity protection are welcome safety features.
The GB50 is a sturdy piece of kit, and its built-to-last feel is backed up by a free one-year warranty. The 1500A output has proven itself in getting some of C&SC’s classics back up and running we’d highly recommend it as a great Father’s Day gift.
-
4. A subscription to Classic & Sports Car magazine
We might be a little biased, but we think a subscription to Classic & Sports Car would make a great Father’s Day gift (plus it will last all year)!
This Father’s Day we have a special offer where you can get 62% off a bundle subscription to Classic & Sports Car (54% in the US) plus one extra issue free.
Subscribe to Classic & Sports Car with our Father’s Day offer here
-
5. Hurtle Auto Print Works (from £15)
Keen readers of the magazine may have noticed some lovely artwork of our team’s classics whilst flicking through the ‘Our classic’ pages.
This is the fine work of James Leddy, who has a catalogue of beautiful prints available to buy via his online Etsy store (Hurtle Prints).
All of Leddy’s stock artwork can be modified, or you can even commission a brand-new artwork of your father’s pride and joy.
-
6. Reflection prints (from £70)
Here’s something a little different for dad… Super-talented photographer Olgun Kordal, formerly of C&SC, has developed a line of art prints using some eye-catching digital techniques.
The ever-growing series features some spectacular classic cars and some fascinating colour palettes, including the BMW 3.0 CSL, Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari 456M. He welcomes private commissions via Instagram (@carsandcolour), too.
Beautifully printed on Fuji Fine Art Photo Rag Paper, prints come with a white border and are available in three sizes: 18x18in, 24x24in and 30x30in.
-
7. Tamiya Audi V8 Touring Car (from £124.95)
Maybe your dad can test his driving skills with this Audi V8 Touring Car from Tamiya.
The 1/10 scale assembly kit is a replica of the number 45 car which powered Frank Biela to the 1991 DTM drivers’ title. The body is made from polycarbonate and the kit features some fantastic silver-rimmed, gold-spoked wheels, shrouded in miniature racing slicks.
To complete the model, you’ll need a radio, servo, battery, charger and some paint for the body.
We think you might struggle to squeeze in the 3.6-litre V8 found in the original, though!
-
8. Rapstrap (from £3.99)
The honest cable tie has been a staple item in classic car owners’ toolkits for decades, and little about it has changed since its inception in the 1950s. Until now…
The good folks at Rapstrap think they can do it better, and have developed a tie strip aimed at reducing plastic waste. Once the Rapstrap is tied, it can be cut and tied again, meaning you can get several uses out of just one strip. The soft rubber is also resistant to fuels and oils.
Packs start from £3.99.
-
9. Automobilist posters (from £28.05)
Automobilist creates some beautiful car-related posters – maybe you can find one to fill that blank space on dad’s workshop wall?
There is a wide selection to choose from, featuring everything from Jackie Stewart taking off at the Nürburgring in his Matra MS80 to a McLaren F1 GTR print commemorating its win at the 1995 Le Mans 24-hour race, or how about a wonderfully Scottish celebration of David Coulthard’s win at the 2000 French Grand Prix.
Prices start at under £30, so they won’t empty your pockets, either.
-
10. Lego 1970 Ferrari 512M (£17.99)
Lego’s Speed Champions series produces fantastic miniature models of some of our favourite classic cars. One of the latest is this 291-piece model of the 1970 Ferrari 512M.
For less than £20 (and a little imagination at the kitchen counter), let your father recreate this classic Ferrari’s epic win at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
-
11. Alcosense Lite 2 (£44.99)
Although this may not be the most exciting Father’s Day gift, it could be a very useful one – especially after an evening down the pub.
Priced at under £50, the Lite 2 is Alcosense’s entry-level breathalyser. The unit analyses the amount of alcohol on your breath before telling you if you are over the drink-drive limit – and by how much – in a matter of seconds.
The information is presented in increments of 0.1mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood – 0.8 being the limit in England. The Lite 2 is powered by three AAA batteries and its compact size means it will easily slip into your dad’s pocket.
-
12. Classic car handkerchief (£7.99)
Maybe your dad’s period attire could do with a little refresh before you head to this year’s Goodwood Revival?
These 14in silk handkerchiefs from Motor Gifts are the perfect companion for any tweed suit. They are printed with a repeated pattern of front ends of a range of pre-war greats including Bentley, Lincoln, Bugatti, Packard and Daimler.
-
13. London Motor Show print (from £20)
Sprinkle a little nostalgia in your dad’s garage with these retro motor show prints from the London Transport Museum.
Originally printed at Frederick Dangerfield’s factory in St Albans, these charming re-prints depict classic posters from the ‘20s and ‘30s. They offer endearing artwork and delightful font selection in equal measure.
-
14. Clarke Tool Chest/Cabinet Combo (£178.80)
If your dad is constantly losing his sockets and spanners, then maybe a nice new tool chest would make the perfect Father’s Day gift.
Although this particular option falls on the pricier side, this cabinet by Clarke has plenty of storage – with 13 drawers and a spacious cabinet – and it’s on wheels, making it easy to manoeuvre around a workspace.
-
15. Laser Tools 9-in-1 Stainless Steel Multi-Tool (£60.48)
A multi-tool could be a useful present for dad to help deal with those random jobs which might crop up on his classic car.
At just over £60, this offering from Laser might be a little pricey, but it does offer a range of features including pliers and eight other essential tools. There is also an LED torch incorporated into the detachable handle – useful for lighting those hard-to-reach places.
-
16. Playmobil classic Volkswagens (from £39.99)
If dad is a fan of Wolfsburg classics, then one of these Volkswagen Playmobil kits might do the trick.
Playmobil has produced the VW Beetle and T1 Camping Bus as easy to assemble kits, with cool features such as suitcases, a surfboard and a sandcastle. We think the finished models would look great on display, but since this is a brand that always produces quality items, we’re sure they’d withstand light-hearted play – possibly a short road trip around the living room?
The Beetle costs £39.99 and the T1 Camping Bus is £49.99 (plus free shipping).
-
17. K&Y Fob (from €50)
Davide Mariscotti is a Porsche enthusiast and proud 356 owner. For the past few years he has been producing a range of hand-crafted, customisable key fobs out of his Monza base.
The fobs are made from genuine leather and are available in a variety of colours and styles. Each one can be personalised with a chosen phrase. A nod to the racing Porsches of years gone by, ‘La chiave va a sinistra’ or ‘key is on the left’ is our pick.
The fobs are priced from €50 (Porsche not included, unfortunately).
-
18. Gunson Classic Wooden Handle Screwdrivers (from £13.34)
What better for tinkering with a beloved classic car than some brilliantly engineered and great-looking screwdrivers.
Available in 160x9mm, 200x9.5mm, 250x10mm and 300x10.5mm sizes, Gunson’s flathead screwdrivers are fantastic for a variety of applications, from woodworking to classic cars.
The screwdrivers feature a heat-treated high-carbon blade which extends all the way up the tool, so a hammer should not splinter the beautifully finished wooden handle.
-
19. Art of Rally (from £12.99)
Maybe your dad fancies himself as the next Walter Röhrl?
Art of Rally offers a new and stylish take on traditional racing games. Get behind the (virtual) wheel of some classic rally cars – from the ’60s to Group B – and take on challenging stages inspired by real world locations, from Finland to Sardinia and many more.
The game is available online (for Windows and Mac) as well as Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles.
-
20. Moto-Lita Mark Four (from £177)
A new steering wheel is a great way to spruce up a classic car’s interior, and British firm Moto-Lita knows a thing or two about making some of the best.
We are particularly fond of the three-spoke Mark Four. Available in four sizes (from 12in to 15in), it can be clad in a range of materials including perforated leather, suede and Alcantara.
-
21. Laser Tools stepped car ramps (£76.99)
These stepped car ramps could be a useful addition to your father’s garage set-up.
Made from polypropylene, each ramp measures 600x210mm, with a maximum height of 130mm. Each pair costs £76.99.
As well as being great for working on a car, they are useful for keeping caravans and motorhomes level or laying up your car for the winter, and they won’t cause tyre damage or flat-spots.
-
22. REVS Art (from £25)
Revd Adam Gompertz – also known as REVS Art – creates automotive prints in a beautifully recognisable style.
He draws on his experience from 10 years working in automotive and yacht design, and also takes inspiration from US automotive designers, to produce wonderful fine art prints of classic cars.
Priced from £25, the limited-edition works include the Volvo P1800, Porsche 911 RS, Bugatti T59 and more.
-
23. Sparco Vintage Classic Race Suit (£518.25)
If your dad’s a budding classic car racer, then this great-looking suit from Sparco could be just what you’re looking for.
It’s not cheap, but Sparco is known for its great-quality motorsport equipment, and this vintage suit perfectly blends retro styling with modern safety features.
-
24. T-Lab Mirabeau T-shirt (from £29)
Automotive T-shirts don’t come much more stylish than those made by T-Lab. Creative illustrations inspired by a variety of race tracks and classic car brands can be printed on long- or short-sleeved shirts.
Our pick is this fabulous tribute to Mirabeau at Monaco.
-
25. Carvolution Prints (£105)
If your dad has owned a long list of treasured classics, then he’ll love reminiscing over one of these prints by Carvolution.
Oliver started Carvolution in 2011 as a way for people to chart their life through the cars they’ve owned.
Prices start at £105 and increase depending on the number of vehicles you request.
-
26. Bilt Hamber Double Speed-Wax (£16.95)
How about a great-quality wax to help keep dad’s classic car looking pristine?
Double Speed-Wax is an easy-to-apply, award-winning paste wax which provides a glossy, water-repellent finish.
The set costs £16.95 and includes a foam applicator and microfibre cloth.
-
27. Pininfarina 90 Anni (€85.50)
Pininfarina’s archive might be well recorded, but this book celebrating the 90th anniversary of the famous coachbuilder, which fell in 2020, might be the most fascinating yet. The 500 pages explore all 632 models, from the numerous Ferrari bodies to the present day concepts.
Accompanying the text (published in both Italian and English) is a brilliant photographic history, illustrated with images chosen by Pininfarina SpA president Paolo Pininfarina. Particular delights include some oddballs you might not have known before, such as the Pininfarina VW Beetle, Zündapp 750 Coupé or Fiat Cinqucento pick-up.
-
28. C&SC’s Greatest Hits special editions (from £10)
It was tough collating our favourite stories about the cars you love, but we’ve now published seven volumes of our Greatest Hits publications. Each one is packed with our best-loved content from the last decade on a given theme.
With around 200 pages of thoughtfully curated images and stories, each volume is created to be a great-looking coffee-table collector’s item.
And there’s something for everyone, whether your dad loves Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari or American Classics. Or how about our Greatest Hits celebration of our favourite supercars.
-
29. Cops and Robbers: The Story of the British Police Car (£9.99)
Take dad back to a time when the police pottered around in Morris Minors.
This book by Ant Anstead explores the history of the force’s relationship with the car, and the arms race between the British police and pesky criminals.
Buy Cops and Robbers: The Story of the British Police Car here
-
30. Lens and screen cloths (£5 each)
A range of attractive lens cloths from MeandMyCar could make the ideal Father’s Day gift.
The Art Deco-style artwork has been produced by Stephen Millership and Dave Thompson. The cloths include themes inspired by the 251mph Bluebird Land Speed Record car and Goodwood Motor Circuit.
-
31. Hot Wheels Team Transport (£17.99)
Hot Wheels launched its highly anticipated ‘Car Culture’ series back in 2016. It has produced some fantastic models, some of our favourites being a set of period car transporters.
There are a few to choose between, our pick being the Japanese cars – this Datsun Fairlady Z or a Nissan Skyline HT 2000GT-R on a Sakura Sprinter, or a ’71 Datsun S10 on a Fleet Flyer – but others include Jaguar E-type Lightweight, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Porsche 356 and Fords Mustang, Galaxie and Torino, all on suitable haulers.
-
32. Porsche Classic Communication Management (£1390.01)
Granted, this is by no means a cheap Father’s Day gift – or a cheap radio system for that matter – but we couldn’t help but include it in our list.
The units, produced by Porsche Classic, bring a raft of welcome upgrades – including Android Auto and Apple Car Play - to classic Porsches in a tasteful way which won’t cause the original interior designers to snap their pencils in two and storm out the studio.
-
33. Wriggly Monkey beer (from £11)
Why not get dad a present he might even share with you? Brewed at the firm’s Bicester Heritage base, Wriggly Monkey creates award-winning beer for petrolheads.
The company’s range of beers includes Gullwing lager, Full Tilt amber ale, Super Sports very pale ale, Charabanc ruby ale, Ambassador India Pale Ale and more.
-
34. Gunson Twin Head Cleaning Brush (£3.62)
Why not offer your dad a hand cleaning his classic this Father’s Day? Gunson has combined a Nylon-bristled brush with a three-pronged microfibre wand to create a very useful tool for getting to those hard-to-reach places.
It costs a very reasonable £3.62 – and could prove rather handy.
-
35. Silverstone Distillery gin and vodka (£40 each)
Why not get your dad a taste of Silverstone this Father’s Day without the need for him to squeeze into his old race suit?
Silverstone Distillery was formed in the midst of the pandemic, in the village just north of the world-famous track. The company has drawn upon the area’s rich history for its inaugural gin and vodka.
The Heritage No1 Oak Rested Gin is soft and warm, with oaky tones which you may usually associate with whisky.
The Heritage No2 Smoked Wild Apple Vodka is great as well. The apple creates a fruity taste which isn’t too sweet, and is accompanied nicely by smoky undertones.
But don’t just take our word for it, both the gin and vodka have been awarded an IWSC Bronze award. All that’s left to do now is work out which your dad would prefer.
-
36. Tin Tin 1:24 model cars (£64.95)
Is your dad a fan of Hergé’s finest hero from Brussels? Or maybe he associates more with Captain Haddock? Whoever his favourite character from the Tin Tin comic books, we’re sure there’ll be a model he’ll love from the new range of 1:24 miniatures.
The range starts with the racy red Amilcar from The Land of the Soviets (above) and also includes the Triumph Herald featured in The Black Island. Presented in a stylish box, each colourful model costs £64.95, complete with figures.
-
37. Veter Car Mechanical Model (£60)
These 3D mechanical models could be a great idea for keeping dad occupied on a weekend afternoon.
Using a combination of durable wood and transparent plastics, this charming model doesn’t require glue and comes with a set of easy-to-follow instructions.
The finished model features three working gears and is capable of running up to 10 metres (with the help from a steel spring). A functioning bonnet opens to reveal a beautiful V8 engine, complete with moving parts.
-
38. Heel Tread socks (from £5.94)
Socks might not typically be the most exciting Father’s Day gift, but these retro-inspired pieces by Heel Tread are a little different.
By drawing inspiration from the patterns, textures, colours and liveries of some of our favourite classic cars, Heel Tread has created a range of socks that petrolheads can get excited about.
Some of the patterns pay tribute to cars such as the Audi quattro, E30 BMW, Porsche RSR and Aston Martin DB5.
Prices start from £5.94
-
39. Sealey 360° Lithium-ion Rechargeable Inspection Light (£67.14)
Let your dad carry on tinkering with his classic long after the sun goes down.
Sealey’s 360º inspection lamp uses a swivel/tilt system to enable the light source to point in any direction, while rubber-covered magnets (two on each end) and a swivel hook are great for instances where you find your hands full.
The 24 SMD LEDs provide a solid output of 1000 lumens with a 120° spread of light, plus the 3.7V 2.6Ah lithium-ion battery should mean you don’t find yourself reaching for the charging cable too often.
Buy the Sealey 360° Lithium-ion Rechargeable Inspection Light here
-
40. Circuit Superstars (from £14.99)
Circuit Superstars is another brilliant racing game for your dad to test his skills on.
The game combines fun, cartoonish graphics with realistic features such as tyre degradation, pitstop strategies and fuel consumption.
The game is available online (£14.99), and also for Xbox and PlayStation consoles (£15.99).
-
41. McLube Automotive Speed Polish (£48)
McLube is used to help racing yachts glide effortlessly through the water, so we’re sure it’ll do a good job on your dad’s classic.
At £48 it’s not cheap, but it should leave a brilliant finish and do a great job at keeping your dad’s pride and joy looking its best.
-
42. Car Racing 1968 (£85)
The DPPI is one of the world’s biggest sporting photographic agencies. Its roots can be traced back to 1965, when an eager group of photographers began sharing their passion for motorsport.
Car Racing 1968 is the latest offering in this annual series, which sees the publisher opening the vaults to share some fantastic imagery, with commentary from some of the people involved at the time.
This amazing selection of images will transport your father to the heart of the golden era of motorsport.
-
43. Jaguar E-type First Race Win 1961 (Twin Pack) – Limited Edition (£104.99)
Fancy a little bit of slot-car-racing rivalry with dad this Father’s Day?
Scalextric has produced a twin pack collector’s set to celebrate the racing debut of the Jaguar E-type. The two legendary competition roadsters from Oulton Park in 1961, ECD 400 and BUY 1, feature figures of winning driver Graham Hill and third-placed Roy Salvadori. Appealing details include working lights and a special presentation display box.
Just 2000 have been made, so be quick if you want to snap up the remaining few!
-
44. Sealey ‘Lock-On’ Black Series socket set (£45.54)
If sockets are always going missing from dad’s garage, then maybe this stylish set from Sealey would make the perfect Father’s Day gift.
Sealey’s new ‘Lock-On’ Black Series sockets feature specially machined flutes in the socket walls that allow them to be used on fasteners that are up to 85% rounded. Made from chrome vanadium steel with a rust-resistant ‘black chrome’ finish, each socket has a knurled ring to give extra grip with oily fingers. Four sets are available: 12-piece ⅜in-drive and 13-piece ½in-drive, both in standard or deep forms.
-
45. Personalised Haynes manual (£35)
There’s a good chance your dad already owns a stack of Haynes manuals with oil-splattered pages and coffee cup-stained front covers; but how about getting him one he’ll want to keep in a little better condition?
Haynes offers a selection of personalised manuals. You can choose from 210 models, then customise your gift by uploading your own cover image and text.
-
46. Seep Eco Cellulose Sponge (£6.50)
The humble sponge is often overlooked when discussing car cleaning products, but these offerings from Seep are definitely worth a mention.
While not specifically designed for automotive use, these sponges are plastic-free and fully compostable. A pack of two will set you back £6.50, but they should last much longer than cheaper alternatives – the perfect gift for an eco-conscious Father’s Day?
-
47. The Automobile: An Indian Love Affair (£10.02)
Why not get your dad or father figure a great book he can get stuck into – he might even learn a thing or two.
Gautam Sen’s exploration of India’s relationship with the car makes for a fascinating read. From charting the history of the automobile’s role in India’s industrial growth, to investigating how it became the hero of many Bollywood films.
Sen explores the car’s role in shaping Indian society, as well as touching on the country’s passion for two-wheeled transport.
-
48. Diamondbrite Ceramic Car Shampoo (£11.95)
Diamondbrite’s pH-neutral formula includes ceramic polymers to leave a hydrophobic coating which can repel water and dirt.
We won’t pretend to understand the science, but the product leaves a great finish and makes short work of expelling tough road dirt and grime.
Priced at £11.95 for a 500ml bottle, this could make a great addition to dad’s car cleaning kit for a very reasonable price.
-
49. Master Lock Portable Safe (£32.99)
Is dad fed up of worrying about thieves helping themselves to items stashed in his classic convertible?
Enter this portable safe from Master Lock. It has a concealed cable for attaching to an anchor point, such as a seat frame, and a four-digit combination rotary lock. It’s water-resistant, shock-absorbent and big enough to hold a phone, wallet and keys.
At just £32.99 it makes a smart, affordable Father’s Day gift.
-
50. Racing in the Dark: How the Bentley Boys Conquered Le Mans (£20)
How about an automotive history lesson for dad this Father’s Day?
Racing in the Dark tells the story of how Bentley fought to put British motor racing on the international map during the 1920s.
The stories are filled with triumph and tragedy, and make a fascinating read for any classic car enthusiast.
-
51. Classic Motor Hub merchandise (from £3)
Maybe dad will be more inclined to help with the washing up with one of these marvellous tea towels, featuring artwork by Martin Lee.
Lee has teamed up with the Classic Motor Hub to produce a range of fun gifts. Featuring his artwork of 1950s Grand Prix Vanwall, Maserati 250F, BRM P25, Ferrari 246 Dino and Mercedes W163 are tea towels (£24.99 for a three-pack), notebooks (£7.50), fridge magnets (£3.50) and bookmarks (£3).
-
52. Playmobil James Bond Aston Martin DB5 – Goldfinger Edition (£69.99)
We know this is the second Playmobil offering in this list, but we couldn’t leave out this great set based on Bond’s DB5 from Goldfinger.
The £69.99 model is a faithful recreation of the DB5 from the 1964 film, complete with revolving numberplates, extendable bumper-mounted rams, machine guns hidden in the headlights, a bulletproof rear ’screen, tyre slashers and, most pleasingly of all, an ejector seat.
As you’d expect from Playmobil, it feels ready for the rigours of carpet-based adventures.
-
53. Tickets to a classic car event
How about some tickets to one of the many brilliant events happening across the UK or further afield this summer. Our picks include:
The Classic (formerly the Silverstone Classic)
Check out the events page on our website for even more inspiration.
