Rare Ferrari, Aston Martin and Cord coming to Concours of Elegance

A one-of-11 Ferrari, an eye-catching Aston Martin and more are joining the line-up for this year’s Concours of Elegance on 2-4 September.

The event will celebrate its 10th anniversary when it returns to the grounds of Hampton Court Palace this year.

In all, around 1000 vehicles will be exhibited over the weekend, including McLaren F1s as the model marks its 30th birthday, and the ultimate prize is one of the world’s most coveted Best of Show awards.

Just 11 Series II Ferrari 500 Mondials were produced

Confirmed is this 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial, the Scaglietti- and Pininfarinia-penned Series II being one of just 11 to leave the factory.

The second generation of the four-cylinder racer retained a high power-to-weight ratio – ideal for smaller, tighter race tracks – but brought many updates, including a five-speed gearbox and an improved engine, now with 170bhp.

The car on display at this year’s Concours of Elegance is the seventh car produced and is presented in apparently highly original condition.

This Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato was campaigned twice at Le Mans

Another interesting car coming to the Concours of Elegance 2022 will be a 1962 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato. 

Chassis number 1093/R was raced at Le Mans in 1962 and ’63.

More recently, this French Racing Blue car has been restored by an Aston Martin specialist, so will be sure to attract plenty of attention in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace.

The Cord L-29 was the first American car with front-wheel drive

Also on display will be a 1930 Cord L-29, which marks the car’s first trip to the UK from its American homeland.

The 4.9-litre straight-eight-engined car was the first in the US with a front-wheel-drive layout but, despite the Cord weighing more than two tonnes, this configuration allowed it to sport a lower, more striking roofline.

This recently restored Cord is a Broughman model, understood to be the most rare and sought-after of the four original body styles – despite being built for three years, it’s believed just 10 such examples remain.

This year’s Concours of Elegance will take place at Hampton Court Palace on 2-4 September
