1961Austin Healey 3000 Mark II (1961)

The Healey 3000 was launched in 1959 and brought big-bore 6 cylinder open-top motoring if not quiet to the masses, then certainly made it more affordable. The model quickly became a success in competition and although not as technically advance as the E Type which was launched two years later, the cars proved successful particularly in rallying.
In 1961 the Mark 2 appeared. With triple SU carburettors and a hotter camshaft, the car gained performance. This was matched by the addition of servo assisted brakes. The car's styling was also refreshed and overall the car would now achieve well over 110mph.
Our car is from this early era of Mark 2s, being first registered in September 1961 to a John Hall of Somerset. We have a duplicate green log book stamped 1969 which also lists a colour change to purple in 1972! However originally the car was finished in cream as she is again today and was registered with the plate that she still carries, 234MYD.
The car was purchased new for Mr Hall as an engagement gift by his fiancée, true love indeed and it remained in his name for the next 4 decades. Early in the 1990s the car was treated to a full body-off restoration by TT Workshops, clearly the car was still dear to Mr Hall. Indeed he lavished c.£83,000 on the car, a staggering amount to spend on a Healey back then. Sadly Mr Hall passed away ion 1997 and the car was then sold at auction.
234MYD was again purchased as a gift by the wife of the then second owner of the car. Clearly history does repeat itself.
Roll forwards to 2016 and the current owner purchased the car and he has enjoyed it ever since. Carefully maintained and with a thorough preparation ready for sale, MYD is now looking for a new custodian and the next love affair.
Complete with a hard top MYD represents one of the best "big Healeys" we have seen in a while.
