Bentley MK V1 (1952)

This Bentley Mk VI was first registered in June 1952, it would appear to have had just five owners during its sixty-seven years of life. Finished in a delightful combination of Black over Cream two-tone with Beige Leather it drives beautifully.
Owned by the last registered keeper since 2005 we understand that he only parted with it because of his upcoming retirement. This Mark VI has an unusual specification, comprising of a bench front seat and triple Trico air horns, both of which can be verified from the original build sheet, which is with the car. The Mileometer shows 27,000 miles recorded, but we must assume this to be incorrect as we are unable to warrant this mileage due to its age.
Bentley introduced the Mk VI in 1946, and it was effectively an all-new car, and it was the first Bentley with a steel body as standard. Its chassis was quite advanced for the time, with independent front suspension, servo brakes, a four-speed gearbox and the very useful centralised chassis lubrication system which allows oil to be applied to moving parts of the suspension from a central reservoir by using a foot pedal. The factory bodies with a Gurney-Nutting refined shape were made by Pressed Steel Ltd of Cowley and sent to the Bentley works at Crewe for painting and fitting out with traditional wood and leather. They featured rear hinged "Suicide doors" doors at the front with concealed hinges.
Chassis were also supplied to independent coachbuilders for the production of, mainly, two-door saloons and Drophead Coupé models.
Our example was built towards the end of the production run and its chassis number would suggest that this car is a rare “Big Bore” with the 4.6 Litre engine.  A 4.6-litre, factory bodied car tested by The Motor magazine in 1951 had a top speed of 100 mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 15.0 seconds. A fuel consumption of 16.5 miles per imperial gallon was recorded. The test car cost £4,473 including taxes.
Production ceased in 1952 to make way for the R Type.
Originally sold by Joseph Cockshoot and Company Limited of Manchester an authorised Rolls Royce dealer to a R R Wadsworth of Rotherham Yorks this Mark VI has lots of early paperwork, old MoTs and letters from previous owners, one of which (from the owner between 1967 and 1971) a Mr J Reeves, dated February 1992 asks to borrow the car back from its current keeper at the time, (a Mr Williams) for his daughter’s wedding and a subsequent letter from Mr Reeves to Mr Williams  admitting to reaching 100 mph in the Bentley on the A5 at 4am in the morning after Prince Charles’ investiture bash! with a “Couple of sleeping beauties in the back”. These old Bentleys have such stories to tell!
Always serviced once a year.

This is a lovely car which are delighted to be offering for sale.
