Description
The Daimler DB18 Barker Special Sports is such a typical British car that many people have lost sight of over the years. A car that you rarely saw when they were sold new and now, many years later, of course no longer. And yet it is a very desirable car, such a stately British open tourer. The car has already been fully restored and overhauled in the past and is still in beautiful condition. This car was delivered new in 1951 and is therefore one of the later Daimler DB18s.
The body of the car is neatly cared for and equipped with beautiful sheet metal with correct panel fittings. The paint is in a stylish two-tone colour scheme of silver grey with chic dark blue, as is typical for these DB18s. The paint is in very neat condition. The car stands on the original wheels with beautifully chromed hubcaps. The convertible top has also been renewed in the past and is still in excellent condition. The hood closes neatly everywhere and is easy to operate.
The interior of the Daimler is truly British. That means a lot of wood, a lot of leather. The interior has been completely renovated during the restoration, including the wood. The carpets are still in very good condition and fit neatly everywhere. The warm red leather on the seats is wonderfully supple and looks beautiful. The dashboard is equipped with clear instruments and controls that all function as they should. In the back, there is room for one person who can sit transversely on the so-called “sideways-facing seat”. If you intend to make a very long journey with the Daimler and need the space, it is good to know that the seat can also be easily removed.
The Daimler is powered by a 2.5-litre six-cylinder delivering 85 horsepower and mated to a Wilson Pre-select three-speed gearbox with overdrive. It makes the Daimler an extremely suitable touring car. As befits a stately Briton, the Daimler has no sporty aspirations and chooses to move gracefully and elegantly over the country’s roads. That will work very well in this case. The engine has already been overhauled and runs beautifully. The pre-select fits perfectly with the relaxed character of the car and thanks to the available overdrive, covering longer distances is no problem at all. The chassis is of course designed to transport the occupants as comfortably as possible. The brakes can be operated accurately and the engine compartment is also neatly cared for.
All in all, we can say that we are dealing with a very special and beautifully maintained Daimler DB18 Barker Special Sports.
