Green with Tan leather leather, 4.8 Litre 28HP Panhard Knight sleeve Valve engine with 4-speed manual gearbox, Equipped with Robert Bosch Type ZU4 magneto, Eight Day Clock by Keyless Auto Clock Co, Craveroiler lubricator, Wind down 3 piece Auster type rear passenger windscreen, Robert Bosch Brass horn, Leather Auster tonneau, Hood, Hood tonneau cover, Rear Tonneau cover, Luggage rack, Twin tool boxes, BERG Auto-Truck Co of New York leather luggage, RAF 20” wire wheels, Michelin tyres. Chassis #31042 was built for Panhard Levassor agent W & G Du Cros of Acton Vale London, A special order for a member of the Du Cros family,  the running 135” chassis left the Panhard Levassor Avenue D’Ivry Paris works in 1914 for coachbuilders Carrosserie Driguet of Paris where a 4-door Torpedo 5-passenger Tourer Coachwork was fitted. The final invoice was to Monsieur W & G Du Cross of London for 16,119.10 French Francs. The Panhard was believed to have returned to France during the Great War (1914-1918) with Captain Du Cros and served as a staff car (Olive drab was found on the car during a restoration in the 1950’s !) and used by General Foch in Parades after the War. In the early 1930’s the Panhard was imported to the US by Toledo Department store owner Fred Sage who displayed the car at the Chicago World Fair in 1934. In 1955 the Panhard was sold to Toledo based car collector & dealer James F White who completely overhauled the engine before selling in 1956 to Toledo resident and long time member of the Vintage Car Club of America Lloyd Smith, Mr Smith undertook a cosmetic restoration and even found a pencil inscription written “Mon Moullard au Garage Lavelle, 13 Avenue de St Cloud, Versailles”on the aluminium covered original running board ! Mr Smith continued his involvement with VMCCA events. In 1978 the Panhard was sold to the President of the Vintage Car Club of America Ed Heltemes of Colorado who successfully completed in the 1979 Can-Am Transcontinental Tour covering some 3300 miles, Heltemes continued to successfully campaign the Panhard in many tours and rallies whilst in his ownership. In 1990 the Panhard was repatriated back to the UK by Irish Dealer Ben Holes. In 1994 Greek collector Eleftherios Soulas of Athens, Greece purchased the Panhard via Veteran car specialist Ron Cobb. In 1998 the Panhard was sold to the Jean Gorjat collection before passing into its current custodianship in 2007. Chassis #31042 is complete with a fascinating provenance including copies of factory records & build sheets including a copy of the original purchase invoice dated 11th January 1914 and fascinating letters from previous owners documenting the cars history. SV 4284 has been beautifully maintained and has had much recent expenditure by Nigel Parrot of N P Veteran Engineering Ltd, A magnificent Veteran Brass era flagship Panhard Levassor.
