Porsche 928 S4 Rare manual transmission, matching numbers, stunning condition, great colour combination (1986)

Not every car is blessed with equal chances in life. When new this one went to Daimler AG. The very friendly lady from Daimler AG could not possibly say anything as to why and how a Porsche ended with them. Could it possibly be that a high-ranking director at Mercedes-Benz had finally given in to the temptation to drive the Stuttgart’s finest? Or was it they were just curious to find out how good the Porsche 928 S4 actually was? We will never know for sure but it was highly likely Daimler AG decided to buy the Porsche as a “Benchmark” when developing the coming R129 Mercedes-Benz SL generation.
The R129 entered the market in 1989 and Daimler AG started to be sold in 1990. Back to the Porsche, the second and last owner was a Spanish aristocrat who allowed this 928 S4 to be part of his life for 30 years. He bought the car in 1990 and sold it in late 2020 after years of perfect care.
One look at the car shows the observer the great amount of TLC lavished. The car is completely original and for the majority has its first coat of “Venezia Blau” paint. The paintwork has been properly looked after, with only a few minor blemishes. The car has retained its original rims which are all shod in good quality rubber. The correctly aligned panelwork is obviously nice and thin.
It has blue carpets and “Leatherette Navy Blue” interior trim. The electrically adjustable seats provide a perfect sit. The car also has a matching blue dashboard featuring every extra then available. Consider the climate control, electrically adjustable and heated comfort seats with memory function, electric windows,
sound package, sliding roof and the original Blaupunkt radio. The blue Leatherette trim is especially striking with its recurring embossed Porsche logo.
Mechanically the car has been excellently maintained. With only 148,000 km on the clock, the car has remained in top fit condition. In December 2020 the Porsche was fully checked over by the Madrid Porsche centre and was given a clean bill of health. The 928 S4 has a 5.0-litre V8 engine attached to a manual 5-speed gearbox. Its birth certificate confirms this is still the original example, a matching number one. The engine develops 320 Ps allowing the 928 S4 to reach speeds up to 270 km/hr. The engine loves marching through the revs much helped by its transmission. The suspension has excellent springs providing fine cushioning of road bumps. The brakes finally are very responsive and slow the car down well.
The car comes with a complete car wallet, stamped service book and many invoices as well as the aforementioned birth certificate. At the end of the day, we should give praise to Mercedes-Benz for furbishing such a fine Porsche 928 S4 as well as to its second owner for taking such good care over the last thirty years. To be honest on reflection it should come as no surprise that a carmaker can put such a tastefully composed car together. After all, if they can’t who can?
