Get the best from 2022
Every year brings a plethora of events for classic car enthusiasts to get excited about, and 2022 is no exception.
As always, they vary from tiny but passionate gatherings on our own shores to more lavish affairs elsewhere in the world, and everything in between – and here we cover the full range.
There’s bound to be something here that tickles your tastebuds, but if not, never fear – there’s always our regularly updated events calendar to check out instead.
-
1. The Ice
When: 26 February 2022
Where: Lake St Moritz, Switzerland
The Ice is a concours d’elegance quite unlike any other – an event that’s ‘cool’ in literally every sense.
Its unique status comes from the fact that it is held entirely on the surface of a frozen lake, so you’ll be able to see the cars on display about as far from their natural habitat as they’ll get. And the scenery is breathtaking.
The slippery surface provides something of a challenge for drivers and exhibitors, too!
-
2. Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
When: 3-6 March 2022
Where: Amelia Island, Florida, USA
The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is one of the calendar’s biggest and most prestigious events of its kind – and there is plenty to get excited about.
Featuring an RM Sotheby’s auction, a road tour, a Porsche driving experience and much more, including car-themed entertainment for the little ones, as well as the world-class concours itself, get the dates in your diary.
-
3. Phillip Island Classic
When: 11-13 March 2022
Where: Phillip Island, Australia
There is sure to be drama Down Under in March, when the Phillip Island Classic returns for 2022 with its usual varied racing action.
This year, there are 44 events to look forward to on the undulating Australian track and a mammoth 540 entries are expected. Each will take to the Tarmac for practice and qualifying on Friday morning, before the racing gets under way in the afternoon – it’s sure to be a weekend that lives long in the memory!
-
4. Rétromobile
When: 16-20 March 2022
Where: Paris, France
The 2022 edition of Rétromobile promises to be as spectacular as ever, with approximately 620 exhibitors and 1100 vehicles expected at the 72,000 sq ft venue.
Visitors can find manufacturers, clubs, dealers, auction houses, restorers and lots more – comfy footwear is recommended.
There are also automotive art galleries, so you might just find the perfect memento of your visit to hang on your wall at home.
-
5. Techno-Classica Essen
When: 23-27 March 2022
Where: Essen, Germany
We’re big fans of Essen’s Techno-Classica – it not only features the usual indoor car show fare, such as club stands and manufacturers (and, of course, cars), but it also boasts a huge marketplace.
Whatever your focus may be, there’s plenty to look at in the 20 halls the event has to offer, making it more than worthy of inclusion in this list.
You might not leave with your next classic, but we guarantee that whatever happens, you most certainly won’t get bored.
-
6. Goodwood Members’ Meeting
When: 9-10 April 2022
Where: Goodwood Estate, West Sussex, UK
The Goodwood Estate hosts the first of its annual events with the 79th Members’ Meeting, which returns to its springtime slot for 2022.
And it does so with a new, one-off race for Frazer Nashes, as well as the inaugural Robert Brooks Trophy, inspired by club racing in the circuit’s heyday. Formula Three, Touring Cars, Can-Ams and more have also been confirmed for this mouth-watering timetable.
It’s the more exclusive of Goodwood’s circuit-based events, because tickets are available only to those who are GRRC or Fellowship members. The action on track, and fun and games off it, make this a very special event.
-
7. Brooklands Easter Classic Gathering
When: 16 April 2022
Where: Brooklands, Surrey, UK
Sadly, thanks to COVID, Brooklands’ traditional New Year’s Day classic car meet was cancelled for 2022 – but the good news is that a later, Easter get-together has joined the calendar. And if you had a ticket for the 1 January bash, that will automatically be valid for its 16 April replacement.
It is hoped the Easter Classic Gathering will attract classic car owners in the same way the New Year’s Day meetings have done, with all cars built prior to 31 July 1992 invited to park on site.
Gates open at 9am, and there’s access to the museum from 10am, too.
-
8. Salon Privé London
When: 21-23 April 2022
Where: Royal Hospital Chelsea, London, UK
Salon Privé London is a brand-new event for 2022, coming to the South Lawn of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
It hopes to attract a number of owners and collectors, as well as manufacturers, creating an environment that is much livelier than its more refined Blenheim counterpart held later in the year.
It will culminate in the Concours de Vente, where the 60 cars in the spotlight will all be for sale.
-
9. Drive It Day
When: 24 April 2022
Where: Various locations across the UK
Drive It Day is all about celebrating our classics and sharing them with our friends, families and communities, however and wherever we can.
The name suggests you should simply enjoy being behind the wheel, but if you prefer something a little bit more organised, numerous clubs and other groups will hold meets or events to mark the day, so look around and see what takes your fancy.
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs includes plenty of these events on its website – and be sure to buy the FBHVC’s commemorative Drive It Day plate, to show your participation and help raise funds for the NSPCC.
-
10. Donington Historic Festival
When: 30 April-1 May 2022
Where: Donington Park, Leicestershire, UK
The Donington Historic Festival is back for 2022 and will see Group C1 cars return to this famous, picturesque venue.
Also in action will be Ford GT40s, historic Touring Cars, pre-war sports cars, pre-’66 Jaguars and much more.
If you want to get your tickets early, there’s a great Early Bird offer to take advantage of, too, available until the end of January.
-
11. The Great British Land Rover Show
When: 1 May 2022
Where: Newark Showground, Newark, UK
Off-road fans will love the Great British Land Rover Show, visiting Newark Showground for the first time in May, hot on the heels of a successful November 2021 event at NAEC Stoneleigh.
Visitors on that day were able to enjoy a number of attractions, including passenger rides with Land Rover Experience drivers in an array of models, an off-road course with the All Wheel Drive Club, the Land Rover Line-Up, club stands, plus the Adventure and Outdoor Leisure Zone.
Tickets are available from £7.50 in advance, with free entry for under 14s and disabled carers.
-
12. World Cup Rally 50th (+2) Anniversary
When: 1 May 2022
Where: Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK
If at first you don’t succeed… Yes, this peculiarly named event is because the half-century of the London to Mexico World Cup Rally should have been marked in 2020 – but we all know what happened.
Back in 1970, 106 crews tackled this gruelling, 16,000-mile rally won by Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm in a Ford Escort.
This long-awaited celebration at the British Motor Museum should be something special.
-
13. How Many Left?
When: 8 May 2022
Where: Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK
This event claims to be unique in Scotland.
The Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, about a 30-mile drive west of Aberdeen, is hosting How Many Left? this May. It is a celebration of once everyday cars that are now seldom seen – in fact, today some are more rare than contemporary, limited-run exotica.
To be eligible, it must be a car once commonplace of which fewer than 500 survivors remain in the UK. And for 2022, there will be a special display of BMC/BL classics.
For a full-on dose of nostalgia, this could be a lot of fun – head to the website if you’d like to enter your car.
-
14. Grand Prix de Monaco Historique
When: 13-15 May 2022
Where: Monte-Carlo, Monaco
The legendary streets of Monte-Carlo will once again reverberate to the sounds of historic racing cars with the return of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique in 2022.
It was great to see cars back in the Principality again last year after the event’s 2020 cancellation, and there will be a similar abundance of icons to look forward to this year, split across seven different classes ranging from pre-1960 to 1985.
-
15. Beaulieu Spring Autojumble
When: 14-15 May 2022
Where: National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK
The Beaulieu Spring Autojumble is surely one of the most relaxed motoring events of the year, and it offers plenty of opportunities for you to source exactly what you need for your latest classic car project.
Alongside the hundreds of stands to browse, selling everything from spare parts to model cars and books, check out the classic cars for sale in the Automart.
The Land Rover Rummage, another much-celebrated feature of the event, will also be present again, and will surely prove to be a treasure trove for owners and enthusiasts.
-
16. Concorso d‘Eleganza Villa d’Este
When: 20-22 May 2022
Where: Villa Erba, Cernobbio, Italy
The beautiful shores of Lake Como will welcome the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este back to its May date in 2022, having been moved to October in 2021.
Expect plenty of sunshine to warm you and dazzling classics on display – there isn’t much information on what you can expect at the moment, but this world-class event never disappoints.
This is now the event’s 93rd year – it was founded in 1929 – and it promises to be just as breathtaking as any other, combining stunning exhibits and inspirational scenery.
-
17. Classic Stony
When: 5 June 2022
Where: Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, UK
Following on from its New Year’s Day ’Vintage’ counterpart, Classic Stony brings more masterpieces from across the years to the town of Stony Stratford.
This event focuses on achieving as much variety as possible, and making the cars on display easy to access – although there are also ’bikes, military vehicles and much more for you to take in as well.
As always, the Stony is free to attend, although visitors are asked to make a donation to its chosen charity, the Willen Hospice.
-
18. Goodwood Breakfast Club – Rule Britannia Sunday
When: 5 June 2022
Where: Goodwood, West Sussex, UK
Early-morning runs in your classic don’t get much better than when Goodwood is the destination – and unlike some of the estate’s more expensive events, the breakfast clubs at this historic site are free to attend.
There are five in 2022, and Rule Britannia Sunday, held during the Platinum Jubilee weekend marking the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, promises to be a special celebration of great British engineering. Expect everything from Minis, Jaguars, Jensens and Bentleys, to brand-new McLaren supercars.
Be sure to sign up for your free ticket before hitting the road.
-
19. Savile Row Concours
When: 15-16 June 2022
Where: Savile Row, London, UK
New for 2022, the Savile Row Concours will combine the art forms of automotive design and bespoke tailoring, showcasing the very best of British in both fields, in the centre of the capital.
With an emphasis on excellence and attention to detail, there are sure to be some stunning exhibits, so make sure you keep an eye out online for more information as June approaches.
-
20. 1000 Miglia
When: 15-18 June 2022
Where: Brescia, Italy
The classic 1000 Miglia rally is back for its 40th re-enactment in June 2022, starting and ending in Brescia.
Competitors will drive a clockwise route through Italy, completing four legs that include the Adriatic Coast, the capital city of Rome and the legendary Monza circuit.
As always, it’s open to cars made between 1930 and 1957.
-
21. InterClassics Days of Elegance
When: 18-19 June 2022
Where: Valkenburg, The Netherlands
This is a new event for 2022, and many details are yet to emerge, but Days of Elegance looks set to be an excellent addition to the international motoring calendar.
It will comprise a concours d’elegance (and a ’Night of Elegance’ from 8pm on Saturday), a classic rally, a gala evening, picnics and a celebration of future classics, all in the surroundings of the Chateau St Gerlach and its outbuildings, parks, gardens and vineyards.
If that doesn’t sound appealing, we don’t know what does.
-
22. Sir Jackie Stewart Classic
When: 18-19 June 2022
Where: Thirlestane Castle, Scottish Borders, UK
New for 2022 is this two-day event set in the striking grounds of Thirlestane Castle, around 30 miles south of Edinburgh.
The Sir Jackie Stewart Classic will be a celebration of the triple Formula One world champion’s career including a display of his cars and trophies, as well as racers driven by fellow Scots David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti and Allan McNish. Expect a new film about Stewart to debut, too.
The Borders Vintage Automobile Club will also be marking its half century on the Sunday with a display that is expected to attract around 1200 cars. And it is all raising money for Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity.
-
23. Goodwood Festival of Speed
When: 23-26 June 2022
Where: Goodwood Estate, West Sussex, UK
The Goodwood Festival of Speed tends to be a touch more modern than the Members‘ Meeting or Revival it’s sandwiched between, but there’s still lots for the classic car fan to enjoy.
The famous hill is tackled by new and old vehicles alike, and the forest rally stage is awash with them, too, so you’ll get many chances to see icons from years gone by in action – and a great deal of those will be present as static displays, allowing you to get up close and personal.
And some of the more modern exhibits are very impressive, too.
-
24. Yorkshire Motorsport Festival
When: 24-26 June 2022
Where: Meltham, West Yorkshire, UK
The second Yorkshire Motorsport Festival returns to the 125-acre site of its successful 2021 debut – last year it hosted the county’s first closed-road hillclimb.
The competitive action will be a feature once more this year where around 75 cars are expected to vie for glory.
But that’s not all. Car displays, club stands, live music, food and drink, kids’ entertainment and more should ensure visitors aren’t left wanting across the three days.
-
25. London Concours
When: 28-30 June 2022
Where: Honourable Artillery Company, London, UK
Tucked away in a pristine, five-acre spot in the heart of London, the sixth edition of the London Concours will be looking to build on the success of the 2021 event, which expanded to three days.
The 2022 edition will be in partnership with Classic & Sports Car for the first time. Tuesday will open proceedings with a ‘VIP Preview Day’, followed by ‘The Style Edition’ on Wednesday and ‘Supercar Day’ on Thursday.
In all, 80 iconic classic cars will be present in themed and curated displays throughout, forming the perfect centrepiece for this automotive extravaganza.
And check out our exclusive 2-for-1 ticket offer!
-
26. Le Mans Classic
When: 30 June-3 July 2022
Where: Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France
Following its 2021 postponement, this biannual celebration of the legendary race is back for summer 2022.
It’s exclusively for models which competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours between the inaugural event in 1923 and 1981, and priority is given to cars that have actually raced there – they’re often joined by famous drivers, too, so keep your eyes peeled.
With its irresistible energy and friendly atmosphere, the Le Mans Classic is a must for any fan of classic racing – and you can be there with C&SC‘s own Reader Run.
-
27. Poltu Quatu Classic
When: 8-10 July 2022
Where: Poltu Quatu, Italy
Set on Sardinia’s dazzling Emerald Coast, the Poltu Quatu Classic returns for 2022 and will surely once again be a concours d’elegance that stuns as much for the classic cars as for the scenery – and expect a high calibre of entrants.

Plus, you can get 25% off Classic Nostalgia tickets with our offer!
-

When: 24 July 2022
Where: Goodwood, West Sussex, UK
This is the second of Goodwood’s free-to-attend breakfast clubs we’re flagging up – and not just because the bacon sandwiches you can buy on site are delicious.
Classic Car Sunday is always a brilliantly attended event with a huge number and variety of classics on show. For 2022, pre-1982 cars are welcome to join the line-up – register your classic and see if yours makes the cut.

With so much to look forward to, a summer visit to this beautiful resort is not to be missed.
-
32. The Classic
When: 26-28 August 2022
Where: Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire, UK
The Classic, formerly known as the Silverstone Classic, is always one of the biggest events of its kind on the calendar, and in 2022 it takes over Silverstone Circuit on a new date during the August bank-holiday weekend.
There’s naturally plenty of on-track action for you to enjoy thanks to a packed schedule, but there’s also something for everyone away from it, including car clubs, trade stands, kids’ entertainment, and lots of food and drink.
Don’t forget the Silverstone Auctions sale, too – you might come home with more than you bargained for!
-
33. Concours of Elegance
When: 2-4 September 2022
Where: Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, UK
The Concours of Elegance is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2022 and will return to the majestic Hampton Court Palace – and that anniversary means we can expect something special from this already spectacular event.
It brings together 60 of the most rare classic cars, many of which will never have been seen in the UK before, all of which vie for the prestigious Best in Show award.

34. InterClassics Maastricht
When: 8-11 September 2022

This theme will sit alongside the usual display of more than 800 cars and 300 exhibitors, giving you plenty to look at.
The icing on the cake, fitting in nicely with the Zandvoort celebration, will be the presence of the Red Bull RB16B – the Formula One racer driven by Max Verstappen, the most recent Dutch Grand Prix winner and 2021’s World Driver’s Champion.
-
35. Goodwood Revival
When: 16-18 September 2022
Where: Goodwood Estate, West Sussex, UK
The highlight of the UK’s classic motorsport calendar has to be the Goodwood Revival, given how much there is for visitors both on and off track.
Of course, the world-class historic racing is the centrepiece, accompanied by parades and static displays, but there’s also an atmosphere like no other to get lost in.
The immaculate attention to detail is what sets this event apart, with everyone wearing carefully chosen period dress, plus a retro funfair, vintage shops and music – and more. Frankly, you don’t need to see a single car to enjoy yourself, but we recommend that you do.
-
36. Autumn Classic
When: 24 September 2022
Where: Castle Combe, Wiltshire, UK
Since it was established in 2012, Castle Combe’s Autumn Classic has always provided a thrilling late-season dose of motorsport, with packed grids and plenty of action.
Sadly, it has also almost always coincided with atrocious weather, which probably accounts for this event’s move to late September, rather than its usual early October slot.
Expect up to 10 races, including pre-’66 Jaguars, the Historic Sports Car Club’s Griffiths Haig Trophy and Touring Cars, plus a celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the first Porsche to race at Castle Combe. Let’s hope the rain stays away this year.

For 2022, the Historic Rally Festival moves to an October date, and is bigger and better than ever, guaranteeing you an action-packed weekend.
For the first time, dusk and night-time stages have been added, which will be held at the rally’s traditional home of Weston Park on Saturday – Ironbridge Power Station is also hosting new stages on the same day.
There’ll be more surprises in store on Sunday, too, which are yet to be announced – it’s thought the routes for that day will also be extended to new venues.

When: 6 November 2022
Where: from Hyde Park in London to Brighton seafront, UK
The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the world’s oldest motoring event, is returning on the first Sunday of November 2022.
It remains as popular as ever, and in 2021 celebrated its 125th anniversary with approximately 400 participants, all at the helm of vehicles built before 1905.
They make for quite a sight – so even if you’re not taking part, it’s a great event to attend as a spectator.

Details of the 2022 event are yet to be finalised, but expect it to be as good as ever.
