4-door 6-seater saloon.

Replacing 2500/2800/3.0S saloons, 7-Series arrived in 1977, with chassis and running gear closely related to 6-Series coupés, and in usual BMW tradition. Bigger car than superseded model (110.0ins wheelbase), and a head-to-head Mercedes-Benz/Jaguar competitor. With four-speed manual/three-speed automatic at first, but five speeds for eighties. 745i (not UK) had 210bhp turbocharged engine.
