CADILLAC ELDORADO (1970-78)
2-door 5-seater coupé/convertible.
Long-running second generation front-wheel drive Cadillac. Bigger and glossier, but ultimately much slower than the first variety. Even longer wheelbase than before (126.3ins against 120ins), still lavish in body style, yet relatively cramped inside. Rare convertible built to summer 1976, the last of GM's rag-tops. For 1977, four-wheel disc brakes (also on Seville) and smaller engine. Because of emission control, engine progressively de-tuned to 183bhp (net) by the end. Same basic bodyshell throughout, but annual face-lifts and many sheet metal changes. Replaced by down-sized car for 1979.
