CHEVROLET CORVETTE STING RAY

2-seater sports coupé/convertible.

USA's only two-seater sports car in the seventies, famous Sting Ray survived with little changed styling throughout. All-independent suspension (transverse leaf/radius arm rear) and all-round disc brakes, allied to swooping style of glass-fibre body shell. Sales up to 53,000 plus each year by late seventies in spite of drastic slump in performance. No convertibles after 1975. Performance declined after 1972, after short run of 7.4litre/460bhp (gross) monsters. Less than 200bhp by late seventies! Porthole tail-lamps from 1974, fastback style from 1978.
