Alejandro de Tomaso's first series-production car, wth big mid-mounted Ford-Detroit power mated to ZF transmission. Distinguished by flexible pressed steel backbone frame and rearward weight distribution (oversteer!), but rescued by sensational Giugiaro/Ghia body style. Very fast (0-100mph in 14.5 secs) but with cramped cockpit and very tip-toey road manners. A brute in every way. Mangusta equals Mongoose in English, and these animals eat Cobras. Geddit...?
