FORD CORTINA GT/1600E

2-door/4-door 5-seater saloon.

First came the GT model a direct successor to Mk 1 derivative, with more instruments, trim and performance. For 1968 model year it had 1599cc/86bhp bowl-in-piston engine and was joined by 1600E, mechanically same but with lowered Lotus-Cortina suspension, Rostyle wheels, plush carpets, seats and trim - and instant 'Executive' success. Near-10mph top speed, lots of verve and great value for money, as sales figures confirm. All UK-market, 1600Es had four doors. Some GT Estates built to special order.
