FORD FIESTA

3-door 4-seater hatchback.

Ford's first-ever Supermini, built in Spain, West Germany and UK (Dagenham) in multitude of types, all with typical hatchback body style. Vast majority with new 'Valencia' 957cc/1117cc transverse engines, but 1.3-litre 'Kent' unit for 1.35 models, and 1.6-litre 'Kent' (317,700 of them) for USA export 'federal' type. All with same end-on four-speed 'box and no automatic option, but front discs for all. A great sales success as expected, replaced for '84 by Mk'11/2' face-lifted version with different engine line-up.
