Lightly restyled cabin, by Pininfarina, on same basic shell and unchanged running gear, except 205bhp/fuel injection tune for 4.2-litre engine, and five-speed (Rover-type) manual gearbox. Smoothed out nose, with fewer slots, made car look even sleeker. Poor reception at first, but Jaguar renaissance began in 1980 and cars later sold at record rates. Replaced by 'XJ40' type in 1986.
