JENSEN-HEALEY

2-door 2-seater convertible.

Kjell Qvale's 'dash for growth', killed by energy crisis, inflation and anodyne styling. Qvale bought Jensen, installed Healey family as designers, and a new unit-construction car was the result. Lotus 16-valve/140bhp engine, Chrysler transmission (Getrag from end '74), and Vauxhall Viva suspension. Style much changed at prototype stage, looked very anonymous in production. Trouble from early Lotus engines and rusting bodies. Demand sagged before Jensen closed down. 120mph and 25mpg were attractive to many.
