New W125 range of 'medium' cars to replace W114/W115 'New Generation' cars. Understated style still, now on 110ins wheelbase, with semi trailing link rear suspension, and horizontal theme four-headlamp front style. At first with old style engines, but 1997cc/2299cc new engine family (109bhp/136bhp) introduced in mid-1980. In original 'basic' form good for 105mph, but rather sluggish, if beautifully built. Estate cars (T = Transporter) from 1978, but 2-litre only from 1980.
