MG MGB GT V8

2-door 2+2-seater sports coupé/hatchback.

Much misunderstood high-performance version of MGB GT. It sold surprisingly slowly and was withdrawn after three years. A straightforward Rover V8 engine transplant for the MGB GT with special wheels and different gearing, but no style changes. Always too expensive, yet the fastest MGB of all, with 125mph top speed, a silky engine and massive torque delivery. All but seven cars sold in UK. Like Sunbeam Tiger, perhaps, let down by looking too much like its four-cylinder cousin. No open tourers, by the way - if you see one it has been privately converted.
