Opel
OPEL KADETT (1965-73)

2-door/4-door 4-seater saloon/fastback coupé/estate.

Dull but commercially successful Opel; the West German equivalent of the Vauxhall Viva. No common parts, but similar mechanical layout. All cars with torque tube rear suspension location, and 12-volt electrics, at last. Rack and pinion steering plus an all-synchro gearbox were a pleasure, compared with very dull performance and styling. Limited UK sales, mostly with the 1.2-litre engine (60bhp) announced in summer 1971.
