PEUGEOT 505

4-door 5-seater saloon/estate car.

Smooth, refined but rather characterless eventual replacement for 504, with some carryover 504 engineering. Conventional monocoque and all-independent suspension, with ever-widening choice of engines. Most satisfying were 2.0 and 22-litre overhead-cam units, the diesels being strictly for taxi drivers. Excellent estate not announced until 1982 (having rigid rear axle), and 160bhp turbo not until 1983.
