Second generation Firebird (replacing 1967-69 variety), using same unit-construction shell, basic style and running gear as Chevrolet Camaro. All with same rather cramped coupé layout on 108in wheelbase. Front discs, simple beam axle rear suspension, and lots of Go in big-engined versions. Trans-Am, with 345bhp at beginning of decade, was most exciting - a true rubber-burning 'Pony car', but emission laws steadily tamed it thereafter. Quite a few in the UK today.
