Big multi-purpose estate car with supreme cross-country abilities, due to permanent four-wheel drive and high ground clearance, yet much more civilised than any other competing machine. Mostly-aluminium body shell helps quell rust, four-wheel disc brakes stop the beast, and self-levelling rear suspension helps. The 100mph top speed is encouraging, the 12-15mpg not so! No four-door model until 1981, with automatic option and five-speed gearbox even later. Power steering optional, however, from 1973. Diesel and (USA only) 3.9-litre options arrived in the mid-1980s.
