Reliant

Reliant
RELIANT SCIMITAR GTE (TYPE SE5)

2-door 4-seater hatchback sporting estate.

The trendsetting sporting estate, styling by Ogle, hastily copied by big companies like Volvo, BMW, Lancia et al in seventies. Compared with GT, had new chassis and body style, but similar suspension and Ford power trains. No ZF gearbox option, but optional automatic from 1970 model, overdrive standardised mid-1971, and uprated V6 Ford power from late '70. Up to 120mph, with mid-20s mpg, all in rust-proof comfort, and very practical accommodation. Reliant deserved success with this car, and got it. Replaced by longer, wider, not-as-taut SE6 variety for 1976.
