2-door saloon, 4-door saloon, 3-door Combi hatchback, 5-door Combi hatchback.

Creatively designed bigger Saab, with same basic mechanical configuration as 96 (fwd, double-wishbone front, coil-sprung 'dead' rear axle) but new ohc engine - sired by Ricardo, developed by Saab and Triumph, and initially produced by Triumph for the Swedish firm. Four-door launched 1970, and 1854cc engine arrives in 1971. Fuel-injected automatic 1.7 not UK-available. Future developments in seventies include ultra-capacious hatchbacks and potent turbo. Intelligently engineered and durable.
