Steyr-Puch

Steyr-Puch
STEYR-PUCH 650 TR II

2-door 4-seater saloon.

Still listed for UK sale in 1970, though not made after 1968, this Australian mini-car was a Fiat 500 with Steyr's own flat-twin engine. Amazingly successful, for its size, as a rally car (with Zasada driving!), it had at least 40bhp, and near 90mph performance, with 0-60mph in 16secs. Tiny and light, it didn't want disc brakes, for you rarely needed to slow down. Noisy, cramped, crudely-finished, but with enormous character. Very few ever came to the UK - are any left?
