SUNBEAM IMP SPORT

2-door 4-seater saloon.

High-revving, full-of-verve hot-rod version of Hillman Imp, badged as a Sunbeam or even as a Singer Chamois (see above) 50bhp engine gave 90mph top speeds, but servo drum brakes were thought sufficient. A few had the 'Rally' treatment, which meant 998cc and 65bhp. Identified always by slatted (rear) engine lid, and quad headlamps from 1969. Re=named 'Sport' (not Imp Sport) from 1970, with no mechanical changes.
