TALBOT AVENGER

4-door 4-seater saloon/estate.

In its third 'career' (first reviewed) the Avenger lived for less than two years. Basic style as with other badges, and choice of engine sizes. LS/GL/GLS trim packs, but no high-performance versions (unlike previous 'lives'), so 85-90mph from 1.6-litres was best available. An old-fashioned, front engine/rear drive/live axle chassis, with MacPherson front struts and front discs. Dull, dull, dull - and only notable for giving rise to the Sunbeam and Sunbeam Lotus hatchbacks. Still selling steadily when Linwood factory closed down in '81.
