Next generation Carina, taking over in the UK for 1978, having a more squared-up profile, so typical of late-seventies Japanese products. Longer wheelbase (98.5ins) but same basic mechanical layout as for previous Carinas, and significantly more interior space. Still a boringly conventional Marina/Cortina style of car, which left no lasting reputation. This time, though estate cars were available thoughtout, and 1.8-litre engines in early eighties. As before, no coupés or twin-cams in the UK. Now replaced by a third generation front-wheel-drive car.
