An Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 swept to £170k to be the priciest car at Historics at Brooklands final sale of the year on 30 November.
The top-seller was some way clear of the £118,720 raised by a 1941 BMW 327 cabrio that has been brought up to the same spec as a factory 327/28.
Of the classic highlighted before the sale, the ex-Blakes Hotel 1935 Austin Taxi that was bought by socialite Anouska Hempel and is said to have ferried a whole host of stars around London raised £28,000.
Similarly the pre-auction publicity for the 1911 Vulcan 15.9 that had languished in a house's hallway for decades helped push the selling price to £46k.
Also of note, an ex-Lofty England 1962 Jaguar E-type romped to £76,160 while a 1972 Porsche 911S smashed its pre-sale top estimate to sell for £75k.
An immaculate 1960 Jensen 541R looked good value even at £41,400, while bravest buy of the day was the £10k shelled out for a 1985 Aston Martin Lagonda that hasn't run for some time and is "in need of some cosmetic restoration".
