A handful of low-mileage Italian sportscars crossed the block for record-breaking sums at Silverstone Auctions' Race Retro sale on 22 February.
Leading the high-flying classics was a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa, which smashed its pre-sale estimate to sell for £202,500 – a new world record according to the auction house.
The car had only covered 960 miles from new and, in addition to a five-piece bespoke luggage set, was sold with a limited edition Ferrari watch by Cartier, which was ordered when the Testarossa was new.
Originally delivered to a buyer in Germany, the Ferrari eventually made its way to Romania, where it remained until the Race Retro sale.
Another '90s Ferrari also caused waves at the sale, this time a later 456M model. The 1999 car was a very low-mileage example with 400 miles on the clock and one previous owner.
It fetched £118,125 on the day – considerably higher than its £90,000 pre-sale upper estimate and enough to lay claim to another record.
An Alfa Romeo SZ completed the record-breaking trio of Italian classics. The 1991 example had been used nearly as sparingly as the 456M, covering 808km in its 24 years.
Its limited use and exceptional condition were reflected in another impressive result; the boxy sports coupé fetched £84,938 – more than £30,000 above its pre-sale lower estimate.
While not a record-breaking result, a 1973 Porsche 911 2.4S with an extensive history file beat its upper estimate by £20,000 to sell for £114,750.
Managing director Nick Whale said: "This is another great set of results for our vendors and gives a promising and exciting outlook for the year ahead."
