The grand re-opening of Brooklands’ historic Finishing Straight will take place during the first day of the Double Twelve Motorsport Festival (17-18 June), 110 years to the day since the track was originally opened.
The construction of a Bellman hangar partially obscured the Finishing Straight in 1940 but now, thanks to the Heritage Lottery-funded Brooklands Aircraft Factory and Race Track Revival Project, that hangar has now been fully restored and relocated.
A grand re-opening ceremony has been planned that will include a re-enactment of the original opening parade of 17 June 1907, complete with veteran cars, displays and demonstrations of surviving Brooklands racing cars and motorcycles, plus taxying runs by some of the Museum’s historic aircraft.
The celebration continues with the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival, which comprises a sprint, driving tests and a concours d’elegance. Mercedes-Benz’ World Circuit will host the sprint, while the Museum will be home to the concours.
As ever, the venue’s Test Hill Challenge we prove an exciting draw, while the site is expected to be filled with car club displays, demonstrations and trade stands, not to mention high-quality catering and live music to keep visitors entertained.
