The Endurance Rally Association’s Sahara Challenge drew to a close this week following 10 days of punishing driving from Madrid to the chequered flag at Marrakesh’s Jaama el-Fnaa Square – and the pictures are out of this world.
Just 20 seconds separated the top three finishes, with Gianmaria Aghem and Rossella Conti taking first place in their 1971 Lancia Fulvia Coupé. They were followed by Mike Velasco and Peter St George’s 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280S, with Ludovic Bois and Julia Coleman rounding off the top three in their 1969 Volvo Amazon.
Rally director Fred Gallagher said: “There’s been a wonderful spirit among the crews from the moment the flag dropped in Toledo right until the very end in Marrakesh. We’re delighted to see so many of our old friends with us once again and thrilled that we’ve been able to welcome so many new ones to the world of vintage and classic rallying.”
