The 1964 Rallye Monte-Carlo-winning Mini Cooper ’S’ of Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon is set to become on of the stars of this year’s Coventry Motofest, as it delights crowds on the city’s ringroad sprint circuit.
The car shot to prominence after being driven to an unexpected victory at the 1964 Rallye Monte-Carlo ahead of the much more powerful V8-engine Ford Falcon of Bo Ljungfedlt. Now, the famous racer is expected to be driven through the streets of Coventry following extensive reconditioning work carried out at the British Motor Museum.
“We are very excited to have Paddy Hopkirk’s Mini Cooper ’S’ at this year’s Coventry Motofest,” said event director James Noble. “The Mini Cooper ’S’s victory in the 1964 Rallye Monte-Carlo is one of the most iconic performances in motor sport history and so to have it run here on our sprint circuit more than 50 years on from its greatest triumph represents an amazing coup for the event.”
In addition to seeing ’33 EJB’ and other classic vehicles being demonstrated on the sprint circuit, there’s also the opportunity for visitors to display their own vehicles, with space available for 500 motorcycles and scooters and 300 cars.
