Touring car legends to battle at Goodwood

| 18 Dec 2014

Rob Huff and Steve Soper will go head-to-head in Group 1 Ford Capris at next year's 73rd Goodwood Members' Meeting, which takes place at the Chichester circuit on 21-22 March. The news comes hot on the heels of Les Leston's Lotus Elite, which was also confirmed to run earlier this week.

The stage has been set for an epic battle between two different eras of touring car racing, with 2012 World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff testing his mettle against the experience of Soper, who tasted victory in the British, European and World Touring Car Championships during a lengthy racing career.

73rd Goodwood Members' Meeting

Huff is expected to drive the Bastos-liveried Capri III 3.0S in the Gerry Marshall Trophy for 1972-'82 Group 1 Touring Cars, while also driving the same Jaguar E-type he took to fifth position in the RAC TT Celebration race at this year's Revival in the Graham Hill Trophy for 1960s GT cars.

His rival Soper will be at the wheel of the Gordon Spice-liveried Capri III 3.0S that Emanuele Pirro used to storm through from the back of the pack at the 72nd Members' Meeting.

Pirro will also be taking part, as will the other house captains, Anthony Reid, Jochen Mass and Nicolas Minassian, though their cars are yet to be confirmed.

73rd Goodwood Members' Meeting

"I love competing at Goodwood," said Soper. "Lord March goes that extra mile to make sure the experience is as authentic as possible and the result is exceptional. I'm excited to be driving with John Young in the Capri because he's a quick driver and the car proved itself to be pretty fast this year, but you always find at Goodwood that the rival cars come back quicker each year. We'll have to be at our very best if we're to challenge for honours."

His thoughts were echoed by Huff, who said: "Richard Meins and I had a strong run in the E-type at the Revival this year, so we'd expect the same again, but I'm sure the competition will be as tough as ever."
