A unique Ford Sierra RS 500 has been revealed, the result of work by several British companies, including Cosworth.
Its RS 500 Carbon Piranha moniker betrays the fact that this is a carbonfibre-bodied reimagining, while the project’s name, Vision148, references chassis #148 of the 500 original RS 500s built, upon which this creation is based.
The car will be given away in a competition.
The target is a version of the Ford Sierra RS 500 that weighs less than 1000kg (2205lb) – for context, that is more than 210kg less than the original steel-bodied car.
It is not clear what condition the donor car, chassis #148, is in, but this project will see it ‘recycled, reimagined and rebuilt’, with Oxfordshire-based ASM Auto Recycling tasked with taking the classic apart and 3D scanning it to create a digital version.
This will form the template for the Piranha’s carbonfibre body which will be shaped by Yasid Design in London, before the car comes together at Digital Manufacturing Centre in Silverstone.
