Kit-car firm Marlin offered for sale

Long-running kit-car makers Marlin Sports Cars is being offered for sale after 26 years in the same ownership.

Marlin is one of the UK’s best-established kit-car firms; it was founded in 1979 by Paul Moorhouse and has remained in continuous production since then.

It was sold to Terry and Mark Matthews in 1993, and the pair ran it together until Mark’s death from cancer in 2014. Now, Terry has decided the time is right to put it up for sale and is inviting ‘realistic’ offers from interested parties.

Rights to the 5EXi are included in the sale, or the model could be sold separately

Marlin’s current models are the BMW E36-based, Lotus Seven-style Sportster and the lightweight, mid-engined 5EXi and full rights, chassis jigs and body moulds to both would be included in the sale, together with those for the older Cabrio model. Alternatively, Terry says she’d consider a separate standalone offer for the EXi.

The new owner would also get access to all ongoing sales leads, plus technical support for an agreed period.

“After considerable soul-searching, I’ve decided the time is right for someone new to take on the company that Mark and I have nurtured for the past 26 years,” says Terry Matthews. “The current BMW diesel-powered demo car will also go with this sale, so any new owner will be able to hit the ground running.

“While we find a new owner for the business, we will obviously be completing all outstanding orders and continuing to support customers and potential customers with their builds and the supply of parts.

“May I take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful customers, so many of whom have become firm friends over the years. It has been mine and Mark’s privilege to have met you all and help you achieve your dream of building and owing your own Marlin.”
