This year is awash with anniversaries, from the Mini’s 60th to the Capri’s 50th to Fiat’s incredible 120th. But one anniversary really stands out for us – and that’s Citroën’s centenary.
Unless you’ve spent the first half of 2019 living under a rock on the Faroe Islands, you’ll already be well aware of it, because the French marque started celebrating back in February and has birthday events planned throughout the year.
And rightly so, because it’s a legacy well worth celebrating: the incredible, outlandish DS; the groundbreaking Traction Avant; the space-age SM; the ubiquitous 2CV, and many, many more.
It all started on 4 June 1919, with the official presentation of the Type A in Paris (although Citroën itself refers to both 4 June and 7 July as its birthday, but we’ll let that pass).
So, how are we celebrating this momentous achievement? With a whole month of Citroën articles on Classicandsportscar.com.
We’ve already published our first five, starting with a look at the 20 most memorable cars in the brand’s history and our pick of the 20 strangest ever to bear the double-chevron badge.
There’s also a Citroën CX buyer’s guide, an in-depth look at Citroën’s big saloons and a lovely encounter with an extremely rare Traction Avant camionnette – but you can expect to see several more each week throughout the whole of June.
We’ll be linking them all here, so simply bookmark this page and check back regularly and you’ll never miss one. Bon anniversaire, Citroën!
